Burloh Teardrop - viewing platform
Burloh Teardrop (Rothera Viewing Platform Project):
This project is one our newest projects as a result of ExpLearn Scotland’s work on a recent Masters Program.
Inspired by BAM Nuttall and their recent work for the British Antarctic Survey on Rothera. Burloh Associates designed this viewing platform project which can have the additional difficulty of being located in the hostile environment of the Antarctic.
The participants create a 3 dimensional structure from 2 dimensional drawings by taking on functional roles within their construction company to deliver a viewing platform reaching out over the water area. The project requires the setting out and excavation of 4no. foundations, before the steel superstructure is installed prior to the precast cantilever slab is installed and cladding and support cables are installed.
